Boat Building At Nordlund

Nordlund Defined
Two things define the boat building process here at Nordlund:

1. the flexibility to give you what you want
2. the experience to know what works best

It starts with the hull. Every hull we build is tailored to exactly match the boat you want. Length, beam, draft, capacity and performance. Other boat yards give you the hull that easiest for them. We build the hull that's best for your boat.

Our hull designs have achieved some of the highest efficiency ratings ever tested. But the real test is out at sea. And that's where we excel. Nordlund hulls have been refined with the experience gained by handling all weather, and every imaginable sea condition. There's just no substitute for real-life experience.

Flexibility
Anything’s possible. And we enjoy new challenges. From small details to radically new thinking, we have the ability to do things in boat building that other yards cannot. We’ll work with you to explore the ideas, weigh the options and come up with the solutions.

Sometimes inspiration happens even after the drawings are done and the building has already begun. Often the refinements made during your project visits are the things that make your boat most memorable. It’s part of the boat building adventure, and the flexibility we offer will give you a boat you’ll enjoy more.

Experience
No two Nordlund boats have ever been the same. Yet from each one we’ve built, we’ve learned what works best. We use this experience to give you recommendations for your new boat. We can tell you what we’ve learned, why one thing works better than another, and give you choices that are based on real life knowledge.

We also know who makes the best engines, gen-sets, davits, electronics and boat systems for the boats we build, and we work with these suppliers consistently. While every Nordlund boat is different, each is built on the combined experience of what went before.

Nordlund Team
Though every boat we build is different, some things stay the same. Like our marine designers and our trusted vendors. During our 50 years of building custom boats, we’ve established relationships with the industry’s best, like R. Edwin Monk Naval Architect and Tim Nolan Marine Design. Their design and engineering is second to none.

The suppliers we work with have proven year after year that they deliver on schedule and as promised. That’s important with a big boat project. When equipment and supplies arrive on time, progress goes as planned. Our vendors also lend their considerable knowledge to each boat we build, so that every component is a perfect match.

Smaller Yard
There are boat yards that make bigger boats than we do. There are boat yards that make more boats than we do. That’s fine. Our strength is in building boats under 115 feet that are totally custom, from bottom to top.

We encourage boat owners to visit their boat as it’s being built. Our craftsmen are seasoned experts who know what’s possible, and can help an owner make the best decisions. Because we’re smaller, there’s more opportunity for the exchange of ideas between the designers, owners and craftsmen. That’s good. We think it helps make our boats that much better.

Family Owned and Run
There’s a debate that goes on in our yard, about whether our people are craftsmen or artists. We believe that there’s truth in both opinions. Many of our people have been with us for decades and are the best you’ll find in the boat building trade. They’re part of the extended family that includes not only our staff and our suppliers, but our boat owners as well.

For Gary and Paul Nordlund, growing up in their parents’ business has given them a long-range outlook on custom boat building that few others can claim. For them, it’s more than a business. It’s a lifestyle. And the biggest enjoyment comes from the relationships with the people who make these exceptional boats, and the owners who have the passion to imagine them.

Repeat Customers
Most of the boats we build, are for repeat Nordlund customers. That probably happens for two reasons. First, we build a custom boat that is exactly what an owner wants. And second, owners enjoy the experience of building a boat at Nordlund. If they didn’t, no matter how good our boats are, they wouldn’t come back.

But since they do, we think that says a lot about the kind of yard we are. There’s a lot of personal attention, which is important for the kinds of big projects we do. Most importantly, we treat the people who are having us build a boat for them, as trusted partners. Their passion and imagination, together with our boat building skills, combine to make boats that are truly one of a kind.

Best Regards,
